What Is Ketamine?

Ketamine was first discovered in 1962 and was used as a battlefield anaesthetic during the Vietnam War. Ketamine is an N-methyl-D-aspartate glutamate (NMDA) receptor, antagonist. It is available in a nasal spray, a troche (mouth lozenge), mouth wash, and as a cream applied topically.

Ketamine induces a trance-like state while providing pain relief, sedation, and memory loss. Other uses include sedation in intensive care, treatment of pain, and depression.
